GRUMPY Goby was our inaugural soft-plastic offering, developed in Waterloo, Ontario to meet the rising demand for goby imitations across the Great Lakes. As Round Gobies became a dominant forage, predator fish shifted from smelt and minnows to gobies, forcing tournament pros, charter captains and weekend anglers to adapt. Trolling rigs swapped silver spoons for copper, and cast-and-retrieve anglers found goby-pattern lures produced more hookups. Despite the change, quality goby baits were scarce. That’s where GRUMPY Bait Company stepped in with the Grumpy Goby — a hand-crafted soft bait engineered to mimic gobies closely and, in many cases, outfish conventional options like tube jigs.
