Description

Introduced in 1996, the Megabass POP-X reinvented the classic popper by adding a gill system and an extraordinary attention to detail. The sculpted contours and hand-finished paint draw the eye, but the standout feature is the Megabass original Side-Stepping Balancer (PAT.) system. That design lets the POP-X convert into a walking-style bait with short slack-line twitches. A fixed tungsten weight sits at the tail while a spherical tungsten balancer up front shifts side to side, directing the mass laterally and marrying a popper’s spitting bite with a distinctive rolling dog-walk action. It can be fished like a standard popper, yet unlike conventional splash-only designs the POP-X’s patented gill system has two slits that let water pass through for a more natural surface disturbance. The mouth is shaped to maximize spitting distance, producing significant water displacement with each twitch.

For optimal results, twitch the Megabass POP-X so it travels roughly three inches per pull. At that cadence the lure will spit water about 10 inches, mimicking a wounded baitfish. Early mornings and overcast conditions are especially productive. Fish the POP-X around grass beds, points, or along shoreline cover for best action and hookups.
