The classic Smeltinator head design you know — now with added punch. Built to mimic slender baitfish, the Smeltinator underspin combines subtle flash and tuned vibration to trigger hesitant, pressured bass.

The Smeltinator was developed by Canadian angler Bryan Gustafson with crucial input from Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jeff Gustafson and Northland Tackle founder John Peterson. Designed to perfectly imitate slender minnows common across the Northern U.S. and Canada, the jig earned its reputation on the tournament trail. After years of success, Jeff Gustafson’s tournament wins (including the 2023 Bassmaster Classic) helped cement the Smeltinator’s status. In 2023 Bryan licensed manufacturing to Northland Tackle, reuniting the team that created the jig.

Match the hook size to your soft plastic: 1/0–2/0 for finesse swimbaits and 3" minnows, 2/0–3/0 for 4" baits (the size Gussy used during his Elite and Classic win on the Tennessee River with 4–5" minnows), and 4/0–5/0 for soft plastics over 5". The Smeltinator underspin is ideal for pressured waters and forward-facing sonar conditions where accurate baitfish imitation matters most.
