AIRDRIVE DESIGN represents the next generation of Daiwa spinning reels. By lightening the rotor, spool and bail assembly, the front of the reel spins with far less inertia, producing an exceptionally smooth, effortless rotation. The result is a trouble‑free feel that lets anglers enjoy pure fishing performance — a philosophy that begins with the 22 EXIST.

Built to set the standard, the 22 EXIST is Daiwa’s showcase for the future of spinning reels. AIRDRIVE DESIGN was conceived to lead the market and reshape how reels perform and respond.

To achieve this, Daiwa rethought the spinning reel as two primary sections. The first, the rear unit, houses the body and the core drive components, including the drive gear. Integration of MQ technology together with Daiwa’s robust Digigear construction gives the rear unit exceptional strength and long‑term reliability.

Work then focused on the front unit — the rotor, spool and bail assembly. Through redesigned geometry and extensive refinement, Daiwa significantly reduced the mass of the front assembly in 2022. Years of development culminated in AIRDRIVE DESIGN: a balanced, high‑response system that spins freely, responds instantly and provides a dramatically lighter feel.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN is composed of four core technologies:

• AIRDRIVE ROTOR — a lighter rotor that lowers top‑end mass and supports smooth, low‑inertia rotation.
• AIRDRIVE BAIL — a reengineered bail that pairs with the rotor to reduce weight and improve start‑up performance.
• AIRDRIVE SPOOL — a slimmed, precision spool matched to the rotor and bail to complete the optimized front unit.
• AIRDRIVE SHAFT — a low‑contact layout between the mainshaft and pinion gear that cuts friction and enhances rotational smoothness.
